The meaning that adults have in biology is a term used to describe an animal that is with the capacity to reproduce. Adults are social concepts as well as a legal concept within the world of humans. In contrast to a person who is who is not considered to be an adult or "minor", the legal adult is a person who has reached the age of majority making them self-sufficient, capable, and responsible. An adult who is legally mature can be called a major. The age for achieving legally adulthood is 18 however, definitions can differ based on the legal rights of the country, and psychological development.

The lifespan of human beings adulthood is the point at which he or she has achieved full mental and physical maturity. Adulthood is typically believed to start around age 20 or 21. Mid-life, beginning approximately 40 years of age, is followed by the age of 60 years. In adulthood there are three distinct phases: Early adulthood (18-30 years) and Middle Adulthood (30-60 years) and Late adulthood (60%-60%). When we reach the early stages of adulthood (between 20 and 40) then our bodies have reached full maturation, even though our weight and height may rise slightly. When we are young the physical capabilities of our bodies are at their best which includes the strength of our muscles, our reaction speed sensors, as well as the functioning of our heart.
